DIMAPUR, MAY 10: An imminent clash between the rival NSCN factions was averted at Seithekiema village Saturday, due to efforts of the villagers and timely intervention of the district administration and police.
A Seithekiema villager told Nagaland Post over phone that a group of NSCN Unification activists had come to the village at around 9 a.m. and were preparing to have their meal, when the rival NSCN (I-M) activists who were in the vicinity of the village came to know about the presence of the rival group.Even as the NSCN (I-M) activists entered the village and were preparing for a showdown, the villagers protested and asked the NSCN (I-M) not to start any firing in the village. Likewise, the villagers also persuaded the NSCN Unification not to start a clash but to leave the village after taking their meal.
After much persuasion, both the factions vacated the village at around 11 a.m. the source said.
On hearing about the stand off, the district administration led by ADC Dimapur Sedevikho Khro and police immediately rushed to the village.
Later, the administration and villagers of the area held a joint meeting at around 1 p.m., after which the officials and public announced through PA system that the villagers have decided not to allow any faction to camp or stay in the village.
Meanwhile, according to a late report, IRB personnel have been deployed in the village as a confidence building measure and to thwart any chance of factional clash in the area.
