NSF, NPMHR condemn killing

Dimapur, Nov 5 (NPN): The Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) and the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) have strongly condemned the 5 Bihar regiment for the “cold blooded” murder of Imkongtemsu of Longkhum village and for wounding another at Lotha Colony, Burma Camp, Dimapur, on October 31.
A joint statement signed by NSF president Imchatoba Imchen and NPMHR general secretary Dr. N. Venuh also condemned the “false claim” made by the PRO (Defence) allegedly to cover up the homicide and for his efforts to foment tension between people of Nagaland and Assam.

Further, the signatories condemned the act of one Tamang, allegedly an informer of Indian Army, for giving wrong information that claimed the life of one and caused injury to another.
The signatories said on that day the victims were traveling to Burma Camp in order to meet Tamang, a motor mechanic, at his call. However, when they reached Lotha Colony some non-Nagas in civvies intercepted the vehicle and picked up an argument with the duo. It was alleged later the group fired indiscriminately leaving one dead and another injured. The signatories claimed members of the group put on army fatigue soon after committing the murder. They said normalcy was restored only when a team of Nagaland Police led by Superintendent of Police of Dimapur reached the spot and took control of the situation.
Viewing the murder as declaration of war by the Indian Army against the civilians, the signatories said the “Indian security forces employ various tactics to strangulate the Naga movement for their political birth right. Even so, we are shocked to learn that there are numerous non-Nagas working in different capacities in Nagaland who have turned as informers to the Indian security forces”.
The signatories flayed the Government of India as also its defence forces for the alleged rampant violation of human rights and ceasefire ground rules, willful attempt to foment tensions between people inhabiting along border areas, continuance of the policy of occupation and suppression even while political dialogues were taking place and for the crimes that it still envisaged to commit.
The signatories called upon the Nagas to seriously think over the future of their nation and the underground activists to totally eradicate fratricide and accusations.
