At a time when the Naga youths are so much into rock and other forms of modern music, an eight member team of Hope Production has embarked on a mission to ‘introduce’ classical music in the state by organizing an “Acoustic Artistry” on November 24 at Niathu Resort in Dimapur which would present the heart and soul of classical music.
About nineteen youngsters stumped the strings of their guitars and violins during a dress rehearsal in front of some select audience at the residence of Dr Beizo at Nagarjan here today. And the same team of musicians joined in by some others would be strumming on the great night in front of hundreds of music lovers showcasing their skills, talents and the beauty of classical music. “Nagas have an inborn quality about music,” said a member of Hope Productions, Neingupe Therie, who is an IT Consultant based at Kohima.
“We want to promote the Naga youths, especially we want to bring out that music is one…it is one which can bring happiness not only to the family but also to the society and the nation as whole,” said Therie.
“Many people don’t want to go for Naga Idol (contest) but many want to play music…many people don’t play music for competition,” said Therie who added that the Hope Production wants to present a platform to those talented youths who play music for the love of it.
The IT Consultant, however, lamented that due to lack of proper facilities and infrastructure like auditoriums, they are unable to do so.
Nonetheless, Therie confided that they are planning to go about their activities slowly, step by step and not at one go.
About classical music, Dr Beizo, another member of Hope Productions, expressed great optimism that it will be in great demand in the state five years from now on. He opined that the classical music is being ‘introduced’ and taking shape only now, though the seeds have been sown in the past by music teachers like Margaret Shishak, Music teacher of Patkai Christian College, Chumukedima. He opined that classical music needs a lot of discipline and hard work so that the musician can become a skillful player.
The same thought was expressed by Joey Woch, a musician who will be taking part in the Acoustic Artistry, he said that classical music disciplines a person and affects the personality in a positive way.
Bethel Therie, a pianist who is into classical music, opined and encouraged ‘everyone’ to take up classical music so that one can be successful in whatever one does. Whatever it may be, a western classical music that Bethel Theire played on the piano was applauded by the listeners. She disclosed that she has some more notes to play on the night of the concert.
Nonetheless, encouraging the young musicians, Dr Beizo said, “We have a lot of trust on you, young musicians…be confident, you have the skills.” If everything goes as planned, then it is expected that serious music lovers will have a great musical treat on the night of the concert after listening to the presentations.
Besides the classical music, there is also going to be presentations of ‘contemporary and Broadway music’ on the night. “Its going to be a real musical treat, I tell you,” said Dr Beizo.
Hope Productions, formed by a group of person from different fields, has a Doctor, an IT Consultant, three businessmen, an IAS officer and a construction engineer, was formed ‘four or five months ago’.
The one thing that they have in common among themselves is to work for the welfare of the society, not necessarily in the field of music but also in other areas like IT and others, said a member. This Acoustics Artistry which is being organized on November 24 is their first project.
