NSCN (I-M) raps army on killing

Dimapur, Nov 3 (NPN): Breaking its silence, the NSCN (I-M) Saturday charged the 5 Bihar regiment with killing its activist Imkongtemsu, son of Chubatoshi of Longkhum village and brother-in-law of “tatar” Akato, in a fake encounter in connivance with Khatkhati Police led by its OC.
Condemning the killing and describing it as “unprovoked”, the NSCN (I-M) in a statement issued by the MIP said following an investigation it had found that informer “Tamang Nepali”, who once worked in a garage at 5th Mile, had played an active role in the incident.

The faction alleged it was Tamang who had planned everything for the “fake encounter” which had no connection whatsoever about arms smuggling or provocation by Akato and his brother-in-law.
The faction said Akato and Imkongtemsu arrived at the spot as planned by Tamang. Later, the faction alleged as hinted by Tamang the personnel of 5 Bihar regiment dressed in civvies arrived at the scene and picked up an argument with Akato.
The NSCN (I-M) alleged though Akato had identified himself by producing his I-Card issued by CFMG chairman Lt. Gen.(Retd) RV Kulkarno and Ceasefire Monitoring Cell convenor “Brig.” Phunghting Shimrang, yet he was shot in the hand and Imkongtemsu killed without any provocation.
The investigation by NSCN (I-M) revealed that Tamang had disappeared from the scene within no time and was taken away later by the army personnel.
The faction said the investigation also revealed that a white Tata Sumo was parked the whole day on that day and that there was no firing from the Naga personnel except a brief argument prior to the firing.
“In the deeper analysis of the incident everything goes towards undermining the Naga Struggle by inventing all conceivable conspiracy to cause roadblock to Naga people’s political aspiration. In 1970s was a period of betrayal to the Naga’s cause by forcing the Shillong Accord using the NNC members. The 1980s was another period of betrayal using Khaplang to split the NSCN and weaken the NSCN leadership as planned by SC. Jamir,” the NSCN (I-M) said.
It alleged the “dirty hands” of the intelligence agencies were never at rest despite signing of the ceasefire agreement by the faction.
The incident is just another “sinister designed game-plan of the Indian Army to make a mockery of the ceasefire ground rules by choosing the spot of killing right on the soil of Nagaland”, the NSCN (I-M) alleged.
Dismissing the claim of the army and quoting the findings of State government, the faction said the place of the firing was Burma Camp, United North Block-B, Dimapur and not Bokajan as claimed by the army.
The NSCN (I-M) alleged jawans involved in the killing put on their army fatigues soon after the incident and took control of the situation by not allowing even police to enter the area. “The whole picture was vividly narrated by the people who were the witnesses throughout”.
